No. 6 UCLA Powers Past No. 25 Washington 7-2 to Clinch Series
April 25, 2026 | Softball
Four of the Bruins' six hits went for home runs, as Aleena Garcia, Megan Grant, Rylee Slimp and Jordan Woolery each went deep. UCLA (43-5, 18-2 Big Ten) increased its season home run total to 161, tying the NCAA single-season team record entering 2026, set by Oklahoma in 2021.
Garcia accounted for UCLA's first runs with a two-run shot to center field in the top of the second, giving the Bruins a 2-1 lead. Washington (34-14, 15-5 Big Ten) answered in the bottom half with a leadoff solo home run by Gabi Toney off starter Brynne Nally, tying the game at 2-2.
Nally exited with two outs in the second and was replaced by freshman left-hander Natalie Cable, who recorded the final out of the inning with a strikeout. Cable struck out four over 3.2 scoreless innings, matching her longest scoreless outing of the season, first set in her collegiate debut against Northern Colorado on Feb. 6. She improved to 9-1 on the year.
UCLA broke the game open with four runs in the third inning. Slimp led off with a solo home run to right field – her 10th of the season – becoming the eighth Bruin to reach double-digit homers in 2026. Prior to this season, UCLA's program high for players with 10 or more home runs in a single season was five, set in 2010 and 2003.
The Bruins added three more runs in the inning, all with two outs. Woolery hit a line-drive home run to left field for her 31st of the season. Kaniya Bragg was then hit by a pitch, and Alexis Ramirez and Garcia followed with walks to load the bases. Bri Alejandre hit a grounder to shortstop Melody Acevedo, whose throw to second for the force out sailed into right field, allowing two runs to score.RYLEE SLIMP OFF THE SCOREBOARD!! ??@ryleeslimp29 becomes the 8th Bruin this season with double-digit homers!

Cable worked out of multiple jams in relief. In the third, she hit a batter and issued a four-pitch walk before striking out Ava Carroll for the second out. After misplaying a dribbler in front of the plate, Cable recovered to initiate a rundown that resulted in Washington's Giselle Alvarez being tagged out between third and home.
In the fourth, Washington's leadoff hitter reached on a fielding error and advanced to third with the help of a wild pitch and groundout to first, but Cable induced back-to-back shallow flyouts to end the threat.
Taylor Tinsley entered in the sixth with one out and two runners in scoring position and stranded both, striking out two of the three batters she faced.
UCLA added an insurance run in the seventh on Grant's solo home run – her 34th of the season – extending her program record. She has homered in three consecutive games and three times in the series.
