No. 6 UCLA Run-Rules No. 25 Washington 9-1 to Complete Series Sweep
April 26, 2026 | Softball
SEATTLE – The No. 6 UCLA softball team recorded its 25th run-rule victory of the season with a 9-1 win over No. 25 Washington at Husky Softball Stadium on Sunday afternoon, securing the series sweep.
The Bruins (44-5, 19-2 Big Ten) are three wins shy of tying the program record of 28 mercy-rule victories set last season. It also marked UCLA's first three-game sweep of a top-25 opponent since 2024, when it swept No. 5 Stanford on the road.
Sophomore Rylee Slimp put the game into run-rule territory in the top of the fifth with a three-run homer to opposite field (left field), extending UCLA's lead to 9-1. Slimp also drove in a run with a double in the previous inning. The Georgetown, Texas, native finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBIs. Slimp's homer was her 11th of the year.
Senior Taylor Tinsley (25-3) tossed her 17th complete game of the season, holding the Huskies (34-15, 15-6 Big Ten) to one run on five hits and one walk while striking out seven. Tinsley pitched in all three games of the series, earning two wins and totaling 18 strikeouts over 13.2 innings.
The only trouble Tinsley faced came in the first and fourth innings. In the opening frame, Kacey Burdick legged out an infield single on a dribbler in front of the plate. After a strikeout, Giselle Alvarez lined a single through the left side to put two on with one out, but Tinsley escaped with another strikeout and a flyout to left.
UCLA scored the game's first run in the next half-inning. Washington starter Morgan Reimer issued three walks to Aleena Garcia, Bri Alejandre and Alexis Ramirez to load the bases with one out. Designated player Soo-Jin Berry, making her eighth start of the season, lifted a sacrifice fly to left to score Garcia.
The Bruins added two runs in the third without recording a hit, scoring on RBI groundouts by Jordan Woolery and Garcia. Woolery continues to lead the country in RBIs with 102 this season.
No. 9 hitter Jolyna Lamar sparked another rally in the fourth with a two-out double. Slimp followed with a double off the center-field wall, driving in Lamar to extend the lead to 4-0.
Washington's only run came in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double by Ava Carroll into the right-center gap after cleanup hitter Jadyn Glab drew a leadoff walk.
UCLA added two more runs in the fifth before Slimp's homer, scoring on an RBI double by Alejandre and an RBI single by Lamar to left.
