No. 5 Softball Drops Series Opener to No. 11 Oregon, 8-2

LOS ANGELES โ The No. 5 UCLA softball team fell to No. 11 Oregon, 8-2, in the series opener at Easton Stadium on Friday evening.

The Bruins (44-6, 19-3 Big Ten) totaled seven hits. The loss snapped a 20-game home winning streak and marked UCLA's first home defeat this season.

The Ducks (39-10, 19-3 Big Ten) took the lead and broke the game open with six runs in the top of the seventh inning. Oregon opened the frame with four consecutive hits, including an RBI single by Emma Cox and a three-run homer by Stefini Ma'ake, her second of the game. Rylee McCoy capped the inning with a two-run blast to left field.

Redshirt freshman Aleena Garcia drove in UCLA's first run with an RBI double into the right-center gap in the first inning. Garcia also made a standout defensive play in the fourth, diving to make a catch in shallow left with the bases loaded and two outs to save two runs and preserve the Bruins' 1-0 lead.
Oregon tied the game in the fifth, tagging UCLA starter Taylor Tinsley for two runs on solo home runs by Elon Butler and Ma'ake.

Freshman Jolyna Lamar accounted for UCLA's other run with a solo homer to right field in the bottom of the fifth, tying the game at 2-2.

Tinsley (25-4) went the distance, allowing eight earned runs on 13 hits with two walks and two strikeouts in the loss. The outing marked her 18th complete game of the season.

Senior first baseman Jordan Woolery was the only Bruin with multiple hits, going 2-for-3.

Oregon starter Elise Sokolsky (8-?) pitched six innings of two-run ball to earn the win. After surrendering a leadoff single to Soo-Jin Berry in the seventh, Lyndsey Grein entered and recorded three quick outs to close the contest.
