The Bruins jumped out to an 8-0 lead after two innings. Garcia opened the scoring with a two-run blast to straightaway center field off Ducks (40-11, 20-4 Big Ten) starter Elise Sokolsky in the first inning. Mujica followed with a two-run homer to center in the second, chasing Sokolsky from the game.
ย
Oregon reliever Taylour Spencer walked the first batter she faced โ freshman Jolyna Lamar โ and then allowed a double to Grant down the right-field line. Spencer intentionally walked Woolery to load the bases with two outs. Garcia followed with a single past the shortstop to drive in two runs and extend UCLA's lead to 6-0. Two more runs scored on a fielding error by Ducks shortstop Taryn Ho.
ย
Sophomore Brynne Nally provided a solid start for UCLA with two scoreless innings before allowing three consecutive singles in the top of the third. The final hit, by Oregon's Amari Harper, drove in the Ducks' first run. Reliever Sydney Somerndike entered in the third and allowed the two runners Nally was responsible for to score on a sacrifice fly by Stefini Ma'ake and an RBI single by Rylee McCoy.
ย
UCLA extended the lead to run-rule territory in the bottom of the fourth with home runs by Slimp and Woolery off Oregon's third pitcher, Lyndsey Grein.
ย
Woolery's opposite-field, two-run homer to right marked her 33rd of the season. She ranks third in NCAA Division I history with 106 RBIs this season.
