LOS ANGELES - The third-ranked UCLA softball team started their regular-season ending homestand on Wednesday afternoon at Easton Stadium with a single game against their Pac-10 travel partner, No. 1 Washington. Unfortunately, a shaky start on defense opened the door for the Huskies, and led to a 4-1 UW victory. Stephanie Swenson took the loss for the Bruins, falling to 10-1 on the season, while Jennifer Graves improved to 24-3 with the win for Washington.

Swenson's first pitch of the game hit Husky leadoff hitter Rosie Leutzinger, who advanced to third on two wild pitches and scored when a throw from Bruin catcher Toria Auelua to second base landed in the outfield. From there, the Huskies loaded the bases on three walks and Jennifer Spediacci singled home the second run of the inning.

Amanda Freed singled in UCLA's first at-bat of the game and advanced to second on a stolen base, but would get no further. In the top of the second inning, centerfielder Erin Helgeland reached on an error, and the bases became loaded on a fielders choide, and intentional walk. The second run of the game scored when Kim DePaul earned an walk off of Swenson, and UW's Spediacci got the final RBI of the game for the Huskies, when she was hit by a pitch to drive home Leutzinger.

From that point on, the Bruin defense settled down, and the Huskies did not have another runner advance past second base in the game.

UCLA's only run of the game came in the bottom of the seventh inning, when Lyndsey Klein hit the top of the right field wall for a one-out double. Courtney Dale then posted an RBI single to right, bringhing Klein home, but it wasn't enough, as the game ended with a 4-1 score in Washington's favor.

The Bruins return to Easton Stadium for Friday and Saturday games, with a 2 p.m. Friday start for a single game against Oregon State, and a 2 p.m. Saturday start for a senior day doubleheader against Oregon.
