After traveling over 2,300 miles to meet its opponent, UCLA (12-4, 2-1 Big Ten) marked its debut in the Big Ten Conference with a series win over Maryland (8-7, 1-2 Big Ten). The Bruins rallied from behind to earn a thrilling extra-innings victory over the Terrapins on Friday night before falling via the 10-run mercy rule on Saturday afternoon. UCLA bounced back with an emphatic offensive performance in the rubber match to clinch its first-ever series win over Maryland.
On Friday night, UCLA staged an incredible comeback after trailing by five runs after six innings, forcing the game into extra innings after Roch Cholowsky's three-run blast with the Bruins down to their final out. UCLA erupted for six runs in the 10th to secure a 12-6 victory over Maryland. The series finale was defined by UCLA's 11-run explosion in the second inning. The Bruins held on for the 11-5 win despite recording just one hit after the second inning.

Cholowsky is coming off an impressive freshman campaign with a team-leading .308 batting average and eight homers. The Chandler Ariz. native received Second Team Freshman All-American acclaim (Perfect Game) and a Pac-12 Honorable Mention nod. Cholowksy was the lone Bruin to start all 52 games. He was red hot in the closing stages of 2024, slashing .391/.452/.766 with seven home runs and 18 RBIs over the final 16 games of the season. Recently, Cholowsky was named the No.9 shortstop in the country by D1Baseball.com.
