Cholowsky Named Brooks Wallace Award Finalist

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. โย UCLA'sย Roch Cholowskyย was named a Brooks Wallace Award Finalist, an award that recognizes the nation's most outstanding shortstop, by the College Baseball Foundation.

The 2025 finalists include junior Wehiwa Aloy (Arkansas), junior Aiva Arquette (Oregon State), sophomore Roch Cholowsky (UCLA), senior Matt King (Arizona State) and junior Alex Lodise (Florida State).
The award honors the nation's top shortstop and will be presented by the College Baseball Foundation later this year. It is named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980. Wallace died of leukemia at the age of 27.

Finalists were identified based on their combined offensive and defensive performances from this season. The 2025 Brooks Wallace Player of the Year will be announced on Friday, June 13. Griff O'Ferrall of the University of Virginia was the 2024 Brooks Wallace Player of the Year.

Coming off a stellar regular season that saw him earn Big Ten Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors, Cholowsky he boasts a stellar .370 batting average alongside 23 home runs and 72 RBIs as the Bruins enter NCAA Super Regional play. His offensive dominance continues with a .761 slugging percentage, 78 runs scored, and 19 doubles, while remaining perfect on the base paths (7-for-7 in stolen base attempts).

Defensively, Cholowsky has been exceptional, committing just seven errors across 289 chances, with 166 assists and 11 putouts for an impressive .976 fielding percentage. He has also contributed to 46 double plays, anchoring a UCLA infield that leads the nation in double plays with 62 on the year and ranks 10th in the nation for team fielding percentage (.981).

UCLA will host UTSA for NCAA Super Regionals this weekend from June 7-9 at Jackie Robinson Stadium. The winner will advance to the College World Series in Omaha, Neb.
