No. 1 UCLA Shuts Out Michigan, 2-0
March 14, 2026 | Baseball
LOS ANGELES โ The No. 1-ranked UCLA baseball team prevailed in a pitchers' duel on Saturday afternoon, securing a 2-0 win over Michigan at Jackie Robinson Stadium to clinch the weekend series.
ย
The Bruins (16-2, 5-0 Big Ten) extended their winning streak to 10 games, their longest since 2020, and recorded their first shutout since last year's Los Angeles Super Regional clincher against UTSA.
ย
Michael Barnett (4-0) set the tone with a brilliant outing, allowing just one hit over five scoreless innings while striking out five. The right-hander needed only 65 pitches to complete his five frames and improved to 22-4 in his collegiate career.
ย
He handed the ball to Wylan Moss, who delivered another dominant relief performance. The sophomore struck out six over 3.2 shutout innings, coming one out shy of his second save of the season. With the tying run on base in the ninth, UCLA turned to Easton Hawk, who struck out the final batter to lock down his first save of the year and the ninth of his career.
ย
Offensively, Will Gasparino delivered the biggest swing of the day, a two-out, two-run double to left in the first inning that accounted for all the scoring. He was one of four Bruins with a hit, joining Dean West, Roch Cholowsky, and Trey Gudoy.
ย
After Barnett's five scoreless frames, Moss took over in the sixth and worked around an error and a walk to strand two runners. His biggest moment came in the seventh, when Michigan loaded the bases on a hit, an error, and catcher's interference. Moss halted the threat by picking off a runner at second for the second out, then inducing a flyout to center to escape unscathed.
ย
Moss struck out two more in a clean eighth before a hit-by-pitch and walk in the ninth brought the tying run to the plate. Hawk entered and slammed the door with a swinging strikeout to finish the shutout.
ย
The Bruins close out the series against Michigan tomorrow at 1 p.m. PT at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Live coverage will be available on B1G+.
