No. 1 UCLA Rolls to Run-Rule Victory Over Iowa, 19-0

IOWA CITY, Iowa โ The No. 1-ranked UCLA baseball team rolled to a 19-0 run-rule victory on Saturday afternoon at Duane Banks Field, clinching the series over Iowa in emphatic fashion.

The Bruins (24-2, 11-0 Big Ten) extended their winning streak to 18 games and remained perfect in conference play with their 11th straight league win.

The 19-run margin marks UCLA's largest victory since February 2023, when the Bruins defeated Omaha 23-0. The Bruins did majority of their damage in a 12-run fourth inning that featured six hits, four hit-by-pitches, and two walks.

UCLA matched its season high with 15 hits, highlighted by three-hit performances from Cashel Dugger and Phoenix Call. Eight of the nine starters recorded a hit, and the bottom third of the order was especially dominant. The seven-through-nine hitters combined to go 8-for-10 with two home runs, nine RBIs, and eight runs scored.

Dominic Cadiz drove in five runs as part of a 2-for-3 day at the plate, highlighted by a towering grand slam that marked his second homer of the season. Call turned in a perfect 3-for-3 performance, blasting his first home run of the year while adding three RBIs and two runs scored.

While the offense piled up runs, UCLA's pitching was equally dominant. Michael Barnett (5-0) delivered another excellent outing, tossing 5.1 scoreless innings with five strikeouts and no walks. The right-hander allowed just three hits in a commanding performance to earn his fifth win of the season.

UCLA struck first in the top of the first after West led off with a base hit and back-to-back walks to Cholowsky and Levu loaded the bases. Iowa made an early move to the bullpen, lifting starter Logan Runde in favor of Tyler Guerin. Martin brought home the game's first run with a groundout, but Guerin limited the damage by inducing another grounder and a flyout to escape the jam with just one run allowed.

UCLA piled up six hits, four hit-by-pitches, and two walks in the frame. Gasparino then returned to the box and punched an RBI single to left, and Dugger drew a bases-loaded walk to push across another.
