No. 1 UCLA Uses Offensive Explosion to Rout Ohio State, 19-6
March 07, 2026 | Baseball
ย
The Bruins (12-2, 2-0 Big Ten) piled up 14 hits, with Will Gasparino leading the charge behind a four-hit, four-RBI performance. Mulivai Levu and Dean West each homered and logged four RBIs each as UCLA's lineup overwhelmed the Buckeyes (5-8, 0-2 Big Ten) from start to finish.
ย
On the mound, Wylan Moss was outstanding in relief. Entering in the third, the sophomore right-hander dominated across five scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out eight to secure his first win of the season.
ย
Roman Martin recorded his second straight multi-hit game, while Payton Brennan and Cashel Dugger each added two hits of their own to fuel the Bruins' offense.
ย
For the second straight day, UCLA struck for three runs in the top of the first, all coming with two outs. Levu and Martin worked back-to-back walks to spark the rally, and Brennan cashed in by lacing a double into the right-center gap to bring both runners home. The Bruins added a third run moments later when Gasparino's infield pop-up dropped due to a miscommunication in the Ohio State infield, allowing Brennan to race in from second and cap the three-run frame.
ย
Ohio State got a pair of runs back in the bottom half of the inning when Mason Eckelman hit a two-run homer, cutting the lead to one.
ย
The Bruins added to their lead in the very next inning, as Levu unloaded on a three-run blast to straightaway center to make it a 6-2 game. The shot marked the UCLA first baseman's fourth home run of the season.
ย
UCLA kept the pressure on in the fourth, erupting for four more runs to push the lead to eight and move into double digits. Gasparino and Dugger opened the inning with back-to-back singles, and Aguayo followed by shooting a double down the right-field line to drive in a run. With two aboard, West turned on a pitch and launched it off the scoreboard in right-center for a three-run homer, his first of the season, to finish off another big inning for the Bruins.
ย
Ohio State answered with a four-spot of its own in the home half of the third, stringing together four runs on four hits, highlighted by a two-run homer from Dane Harvey, his second of the series. The surge chased UCLA starter Michael Barnett from the game.
ย
UCLA tacked on another run in the fourth when a bases-loaded balk brought Martin home from third. The Bruins added more separation in the sixth, as run-scoring knocks from Gasparino and Dugger stretched the lead to seven.
ย
UCLA put the game out of reach in the eighth, exploding for six more runs while drawing seven walks and getting a two-RBI single from Gasparino to push the margin to 13 and trigger the run-rule. Moss closed out his outing with a perfect bottom half, sealing the Bruins' 19-6 victory.
ย
The Bruins will look to finish off the sweep in tomorrow's series finale, slated for a 10 a.m. PT (1 p.m. ET) first pitch. Coverage will be available on B1G+.
