No. 5 UCLA Falls to No. 11 Oregon, 13-11
May 02, 2026 | Softball
ย
The Bruins (44-7, 19-4 Big Ten) and Ducks (40-10, 20-3 Big Ten) traded blows throughout, combining for five lead changes.
ย
UCLA's comeback bid in the seventh inning fell short. The Bruins opened the frame with three consecutive hits, capped by freshman Bri Alejandre's three-run home run to left field that cut the deficit to 13-11. Oregon reliever Elise Sokolsky retired the next three batters in order to earn the save and secure the series victory.
ย
Alejandre's home run was her 20th of the season, tying the UCLA freshman single-season record set by Stacey Nuveman in 1997.
ย
UCLA hit five home runs in the game, with long balls from Alejandre, Kaniya Bragg, Megan Grant, Rylee Slimp and Jordan Woolery. Grant's homer was her 35th of the season, while Woolery added her 32nd.
ย
Slimp went 3-for-4 and finished a triple shy of the cycle.
ย
Fielding miscues hindered UCLA's effort to even the series. Leading 6-3 with the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the third inning, a group of Bruin infielders miscommunicated on a pop-up near home plate that dropped foul. With the extended at-bat, pinch hitter Addison Amaral delivered a bases-clearing double to left-center to tie the game. Center fielder Jolyna Lamar's throw to third sailed wide and into the dugout, allowing an additional run to score on the error.
ย
Oregon added another run in the fourth on an errant pickoff throw by Alexis Ramirez that sailed into the outfield, extending the Ducks' lead to 9-6.
ย
Woolery trimmed the deficit to 9-8 in the fifth with a two-run home run to left.
ย
The Ducks added four insurance runs in the seventh. Ayanna Shaw reached on a fielding error to open the inning and moved into scoring position after a walk to Elon Butler. Amari Harper followed with an RBI single up the middle.
ย
Bruin reliever Taylor Tinsley struck out Emma Cox for the second out, but Stefini Ma'ake and Kalynn Jones drove in three unearned runs with consecutive hits to extend the lead to 13-8.
ย
Ma'ake finished 4 for 5 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
ย
Tinsley (25-5) pitched 5.2 innings in relief, allowing 10 runs โ five earned โ on 12 hits with three walks and two hit batters. She was charged with the loss.
