March 06, 2026 | Baseball
COLUMBUS, Ohio โ The No. 1-ranked UCLA baseball team rolled to an 11-1 win over Ohio State on Friday afternoon at Bill Davis Stadium, in the opening game of Big Ten Conference play.
ย
The Bruins (11-2, 1-0 Big Ten) jumped out to an eight-run lead behind a pair of early home runs from Roch Cholowsky and Will Gasparino, seizing control of the game from the outset. Mulivai Levu then added the knockout blow with his two-run bomb in the eighth.
ย
Logan Reddemann (4-0) turned in another standout performance, earning his fourth win in as many starts. The right-hander matched his career high with 10 strikeouts, his second double-digit haul of the year, while allowing just three hits over six scoreless innings.
ย
Cholowsky walked three times in addition to his including a second-inning homer, his eighth of the season. Gasparino added his nation-leading 11th long ball, continuing his scorching start to the year.
ย
Levu paced the offense with a four-hit day in addition to his home run, which marked his third of the season. Roman Martin chipped in a multi-hit effort with an RBI and a run scored.
ย
UCLA struck early in the top of the first, pushing across three runs on a pair of gits. Cholowsky jump-started the inning by working a leadoff walk, and Levu followed by jumping on the first pitch he saw, shooting a single through the right side to put runners at the corners. Martin wasted no time putting the Bruins on the board, drilling a double into the left-center gap to score the game's first run. With two outs, Gasparino reached on an error that allowed Levu to come home, and Cadiz capped the three-run frame by drawing a bases-loaded walk.
ย
The Bruins piled on four more in the second, starting with Cholowsky unloading on a 428-foot no-doubter for a two-run blast. Gasparino kept the momentum rolling moments later, continuing his torrid stretch by hammering another two-run shot, a towering drive to left-center, stretching UCLA's lead to seven.
ย
UCLA loaded the bases yet again in the fourth. Despite two strikeouts that appeared to halt the rally, Cashel Dugger managed to push another run across when he scorched a hot shot to first that was bobbled, and he hustled down the line to beat the throw, pushing the Bruins' lead to eight.
ย
Ohio State scratched across its lone run in the seventh when Dane Harvey lifted a solo homer to eight. UCLA answered right back in the eighth, as Levu stayed hot and drove an opposite-field two-run shot to extend the Bruins' lead to nine. Levu then added one more insurance run with his RBI ground out in the ninth to make it a 10-run advantage.
ย
Ian May, Jake Swenson, and Zach Strickland combined to throw the last three innings, allowing just one run.
ย
The Bruins continue the series tomorrow at 11 a.m. PT, with live coverage available on B1G+.
